Langkloof Buffalo Breeding Program

At Langkloof, our motto “Passion Breeds Perfection” is embodied in every aspect of our buffalo breeding program. This passion has led us to the acquisition and development of specifically selected, disease-free East African Buffalo, representing some of the finest genetics in South Africa.

Our journey began in 2013, when the first buffalo arrived at Langkloof—purchased on the Stud Game Breeders Auction. Our foundation sire, Storm, a son of Rocky and half-brother of the renowned Conroy from Shelanti Game Reserve, marked the beginning of our breeding legacy.

Over time, we’ve introduced strong maternal lines—East African, Addo, Madikwe, and Mike Englezakisi—from highly regarded breeders including Shambala, Morningside Game Breeders, Thaba Tholo, Exotic Game Breeders, and Ukujabula Game Breeders.

In 2017, a second herd was established under Apollo from Ukujabula, who boasted an SCI score of 133 at only six years old.

Today, our main breeding bulls are Themba and Bheka, both from Thaba Tholo.

• Bheka measures 50 ⅞ inches,
• Themba measures 48.5 inches.
  These outstanding bulls continue to strengthen our genetic base, ensuring exceptional horn structure, temperament, and adaptability.

Our Breeding Objectives

• To breed a well-balanced, adaptable animal capable of thriving in a free-roaming environment.
• To produce buffalo with balanced horn shape and strong Rowland Ward and SCI scores.
• To ensure genetic diversification across all breeding lines.
• To maintain a strict disease-free status in all herds.
