Golden Wildebeest
At Langkloof, we take great pride in being the owners of some of the finest Golden Wildebeest in the industry.
From the very beginning, our focus has been on acquiring superior genetics while maintaining strong genetic diversification within our herds — a cornerstone of our long-term breeding philosophy.
Our journey began in 2013, when we launched our first Golden Wildebeest project with animals acquired from the York family. One of the most remarkable bulls forming the foundation of this herd was Gnl. Rommel, bred by Barry York. Rommel was a bull of exceptional genetic quality, boasting horn measurements of 29 ⅜ inches. Though he has since passed, his legacy lives on through his outstanding daughters and magnificent young bulls that continue his line. Rommel will always be remembered at Langkloof as the first animal that marked the beginning of our Golden Wildebeest breeding journey.
Today, we are proud to be breeding with sons from bulls Napoleon, Botse, and the famous Rommel — all measuring in excess of 31 inches. These sires represent years of careful selection for horn length, structure, body conformation, and temperament, setting a new benchmark for excellence within our herds.
Our breeding cows average 23 inches, with a number of exceptional females measuring up to 28 inches, reflecting the consistent quality of our maternal lines and the genetic balance within the herd.
Our current breeding bull, Fireball, continues to drive the next generation of Langkloof Golden Wildebeest. His exceptional horn structure, depth of body, and calm temperament embody the core traits we strive to preserve and enhance.
This phase of the program is particularly exciting — it captures the essence of farming at Langkloof: passion, precision, and the understanding that every decision made today shapes the excellence of tomorrow.
